Ultimate Fighting Championship career, but not just yet.

Hernandez had an altercation with Curtis and Sean
Strickland at a Tuff-N-Uff event last year. He mocked Curtis
and Strickland after defeating their
Xtreme Couture teammate Miles
Hunsinger, drawing a strong reaction from the two before
security intervened to prevent the situation from escalating beyond
Strickland throwing a blow.

Luis Hernandez explains why he wants to build his name before
fighting Chris Curtis

Hernandez made his UFC debut on two days’ notice at
UFC Vegas 121, finishing Sedriques
Dumas in less than a minute. Curtis recently claimed that he
contacted UFC matchmakers about facing Hernandez after “The Stache”
earned his contract on
Dana White’s Contender Series earlier this month.

According to Curtis, UFC matchmakers declined the matchup because
of the disparity in experience. Curtis said he contacted them again
after Hernandez’s successful UFC debut on Saturday but was denied
for the same reason.

Hernandez claims he has buried the hatchet with Strickland.
However, “The Stache” believes Curtis is chasing clout by calling
him out and considers “The Action Man” to be nearing the end of his
UFC career. The Miami-Dade County deputy sheriff believes he could
ultimately deliver the final nail in the coffin of Curtis’ UFC
run.

However, Hernandez doesn’t want to fight Curtis just yet. He wants
to build his profile first so that the stakes are higher if and
when they eventually meet.

“Me and Sean are good,” Hernandez told Ariel Helwani. “I don’t know
about Chris. He’s coming out of the woodwork. I guess he’s trying
to get some fame. I’m going to get my fights; I’m growing my name.
If his name comes down the list, I could be the final coffin to put
him into retirement… I’ve been respectful. If he has a problem with
me, I guess we could settle it. He’s 6-5 in the UFC. He’s almost on
his way out. If I’m the final nail, it’ll happen sooner or later.
It’s gonna be for money, though. I want to build my name first, and
then I will fight him.”
