Cub
Hawkins has more wins inside BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing’s Trigon
than any other fighter. The 28-year-old Chicago native, one of 13
children, has captured championships at 175 and 185 pounds, most
recently beating
Professional Fighters League and
Ultimate Fighting Championship veteran Jesse
Ronson.

Hawkins, nicknamed The Savage, holds a bare-knuckle boxing record
of 10-1, with nine victories by knockout or technical knockout.
Cub Hawkins discusses Rowdy Legend Montgomery matchup and his
usual training approach for BKB Biloxi
His next challenge is Rowdy Legend Montgomery. At 6-foot-2,
Montgomery has a 6-inch height advantage over the 5-foot-8
Hawkins. The two will meet in a nontitle bout at 160 pounds at Bally’s
Fightnight by BKB on Friday, Oct. 23, at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
Biloxi in Mississippi.
Hawkins isn’t spending much time studying Montgomery.
“I don’t really know anything about him,” he told Sherdog.com. “I
just know I’m going to show up and, you know, do what I do.”
Hawkins and his team haven’t developed a specific strategy for
Montgomery.
“We just get ready for our fight and just train how we usually
train.”
Hawkins remains confident about the outcome.
“Of course, with me getting my hand raised.”
Bare-knuckle boxing has been a good fit for Hawkins.
“I think it’s a mental game – whoever’s stronger. And that’s what I
like.”
He also recognizes the risk of injuring his hands when landing
punches.
“I know how much power I throw, and that’s just something you’ve
got to look out for.”
Hawkins prepared under head coach Jesse Brock,
a Bellator
MMA,
Resurrection Fighting Alliance and
World Series of Fighting veteran. His primary sparring partners
were professional fighters Raymond
Lawley and Andrew Cruz,
who also coaches at SBG
Idaho.
Potential matchups between fighters from BKB and rival promotion
BKFC intrigue some fans, but Hawkins doubts such crossover bouts
will happen.
“They would never do that.”
Ultimately, he envisions a bright future with his current
promotion.
“I’m the champ and so that’s the goal – to stay the champ.”
He gets another opportunity to build on that success Friday night.
