The
Ultimate Fighting Championship added four new fighters to its
roster Tuesday, including a UFC employee.
Week 9 of
Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10 went down Oct. 6 at
Meta Apex in Las Vegas, where four finishes resulted in as many
contracts.

Alivia
Bierley (6-1) and Summer
Onley (6-1) kicked off the action, going the distance in their
bantamweight bout. Bierley walked away with a unanimous decision
win in a lackluster affair, and Dana White didn’t see enough to
grant her a UFC contract.
“I had it 1-1 going into the third round,” White said. “And I felt
like neither girl tried to really get in there and impose their
will and really show they wanted to win that fight. I didn’t see
that in that third round, and that’s what made me make my decision.
So unfortunately, not tonight.”
While White was disappointed with the first fight, the second gave
him everything he was looking for. Mateus
Soares (12-2) needed just over a minute to knock out Ryuho
Miyaguchi (7-2) in their bantamweight bout.
“Soares, you’re exactly what I was looking for,” White said while
giving Soares a UFC contract. “That’s what I wanted to see tonight.
You’re an absolute killer at 22 years old. And I’m excited to see
your career in the UFC. Congratulations, welcome to the UFC.”
Roque Conceicao Moreira Junior (12-3) took on Alexander
Chavez (9-1) in a flyweight tilt. Conceicao held his own on the
feet against Chavez before being slammed. He capitalized on the
maneuver by locking in a triangle choke and forcing a tap in the
first round.
“This was an incredible fight,” White said while awarding Conceicao
a UFC contract. “Both of you guys were killers. Nasty kicks, great
exchanges, then the slam right into the triangle. What I loved
about your fight was everything. We got to see you in a lot of
different areas – striking, kicking, taking kicks, taking strikes,
and winning by submission impressively. Welcome to the UFC.”
Salhahuddin
Everett (5-0), who works as UFC CEO Dana White’s personal
runner, made his bid for a fighter contract in a welterweight
matchup against Ozzy Martin
(4-1). White had acknowledged before the fight that he was rooting
for his employee. The UFC CEO said he had rarely heard the Apex as
loud as it was during Everett’s bout.
White also revealed that his friends from Boston had warned him
Everett would be in trouble. However, Everett needed less than two
minutes to put Martin to sleep with a vicious combination. White
heaped praise on Everett’s personality while awarding him a UFC
contract. He also suggested the unbeaten welterweight might now
have to leave his UFC day job to focus on training full time.
“We got title fights in here; I don’t know if it has ever been as
loud as tonight during your fight,” White said. “And listen,
everybody in the UFC loves you. You’re a great kid. Forget about
the whole fighting and the contract; you’re a great human being.
This could not have happened to a better person. You’ve worked your
way from the bottom up. And let me tell you what – all the Boston
guys were texting me on my phone tonight, saying, ‘Your boy is in
trouble. This guy is a real guy he’s fighting tonight. He’s in
trouble.’ And you could not have won more impressively. It’s kind
of weird cause you’re already in the UFC, but Sal, welcome to the
UFC… This is a life-changing contract. So, I highly doubt he needs
to show up at the UFC headquarters every day unless he’s training
at the P.I.”
Preston
LaGrange (7-1) and Nell Ariano
(6-1) closed out the card in a light heavyweight showdown. LaGrange
began getting the better of Ariano, who then chose to engage in a
slugfest.
LaGrange knocked out Ariano with a right hand in a significant
upset. White admitted he sympathized with the fighters before the
bout because it would be difficult to outshine Everett’s
performance in the previous matchup. However, the +400 underdog’s
first-round knockout was enough to impress White.
“Preston, when I was at the back before your fight came up, I said,
‘I feel bad for Preston now that they have to come out after Sal
just did what he did,’” White said while giving LaGrange a UFC
contract. “But holy sh*t, 4-1 underdog, that’s all I have to say.
Get your *ss over here. Congratulations.”
