The animosity between Jon Jones and
Colby
Covington remains strong.
Jones’ protégé, Gable
Steveson, suffered a shocking 12-second knockout loss to
Sean
Sharaf in one of the biggest upsets in
Ultimate Fighting Championship history at UFC
331 on Sept. 19. Covington subsequently blamed Jones for
Steveson’s defeat, claiming the Olympic gold medalist needed to
distance himself from Jones’ “bad energy.”

knockout
Jones has since fired back at Covington. “Bones” pointed out that
although they were once college roommates, he has achieved far more
in his career than Covington. Jones also questioned Covington’s
criticism of his negative energy, claiming the former interim
welterweight champion needs security when traveling in his own
country.
Jones suggested that Covington’s repeated criticism of him shows
that “Chaos” is obsessed with him.
“It’s funny that you blame Gable’s loss on my “negative energy.”
Meanwhile, I’m an undefeated fighter living the absolute American
dream,” Jones wrote on X. “Before he was caught, our guy had
finished every opponent in the first round. Your logic doesn’t make
any sense. I also find it funny that you, of all people, are
commenting on my supposedly negative energy. I travel the world
alone and get mobbed by fans, while you need full-time security in
your own country. You come out once a quarter to do an interview
about me and what a terrible person I am. Boy, you’re obsessed with
me. A blind man could see that. We started off in the same dorm
room, yet I’ve earned and achieved literally ten times more than
you have. I genuinely hope that one day you start to feel better.
It sucks to even have to address you… again”
Covington has not competed in the UFC since his December 2024 loss
to Joaquin
Buckley and has since participated in wrestling matches,
primarily under the Real American Freestyle banner. Meanwhile,
Jones vacated the heavyweight championship in 2025 but has
repeatedly teased a return to the Octagon.
