Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight Uros Medic
believes he is unlikely to ever make headlines for controversial
reasons.

Medic (13-3) is scheduled to fight Daniel
Rodriguez (20-5) in front of a home crowd at
UFC Belgrade on Aug. 1 in Serbia. Notably, Rodriguez will
return to action for the first time since being imprisoned in
Mexico for marijuana possession and Medic recently addressed the
same.

‘unfortunate’

Medic believes arrests like Rodriguez’s taint the image of MMA
fighters, which is already far from perfect. The Serbian believes
the media is already waiting for fighters to slip up. “The Doctor”
is confident that he will never be in the news for controversies
like run-ins with the law or substance abuse.

“It’s unfortunate that he had to go through stuff like that,” Medic
told MMA Fighting. “Obviously, it was probably his fault. And I
think that type of stuff puts a stain on all of our names, on all
the fighters’ names. Media cannot wait to write another bad story
about an MMA fighter… So, I don’t feed into any of that. I’m not
the type of fighter that’s gonna be a controversial person and have
trouble with the law, trouble with drugs, substance abuse, or
anything like that… I’m a professional athlete, I carry myself
professionally… Obviously, I’m no saint, but you won’t see me in
the news getting arrested.”

While marijuana has been legalized in many American states,
Rodriguez was arrested for trying to cross the border with it.
“D-Rod” says he was carrying a small dose for personal consumption
and had done it multiple times in the past, never thinking that he
would be arrested. “D-Rod” spent almost nine months in a prison in
Tijuana, Mexico, before being released this past April. Rodriguez
even revealed that he enjoyed certain luxuries after befriending a
cartel boss.

Medic has never gone the distance in his career and is currently
riding a three-fight streak of first-round knockouts. Meanwhile,
Rodriguez is also riding a three-fight winning streak.
