Piera
Rodriguez is eyeing Angela Hill
after her win at
UFC Vegas 114.
Rodriguez opened the UFC Fight Night 269 action in a strawweight
rematch against Sam Hughes
on Saturday at the Apex in Las Vegas. “La Fiera” landed the more
damaging shots throughout to earn a unanimous decision win over
Hughes.

Rodriguez then called out four ranked opponents for her next
matchup – Angela
Hill, Gillian
Robertson, Lupita
Godinez and Denise Gomez. Rodriguez also named Hill as her most
preferred matchup to avenge an old sparring session. The Venezuelan
recalls sparring with Hill when she first came to the U.S. While
Rodriguez was used to all-around respect in the gym, things
allegedly went south in her sparring session with Hill. According
to Rodriguez, she took Hill down, which triggered the
UFC veteran. “Overkill” then returned to her feet and split
Rodriguez’s nose open with a front kick to the face. Hill allegedly
didn’t stop even after seeing Rodriguez bleed from her nose. Hill
didn’t even ask Rodriguez about her well being after they
stopped.
Fighting for a Ranking
“I hope to fight an opponent on the rankings next,” Rodriguez said
in a post-fight interview with the UFC. “I’m really excited to get
in the rankings… I got Angela
Hill, Gillian
Robertson, Lupita
Godinez, and Denise Gomez. I’ve been stepping on their toes for
a while. So I want to get a fight with any of these four.
“… [Preferably] Angela
Hill. I faced her in sparring a long time ago when I first came
to the U.S. Where I come from, they teach me to be very respectful
with people who come to our gym the first time. And I thought
everybody was like that because I come from that type of school.
And I went to do sparring in her gym and I was super excited, ‘Oh,
I’m gonna spar with a UFC fighter.’ And then I started sparring
with her and I took her down and she didn’t like it. And as soon as
she got up, she threw me a front kick to the nose and she split by
nose in half. I started bleeding and she kept going. And I told
her, ‘Stop, stop.’ My nose was bleeding and she didn’t even ask me
like, ‘Are you OK?’ I thought that was disrespectful.”
Rodriguez (12-2) has now defeated Hughes (11-7) twice and is riding
a three-fight winning streak. Meanwhile, Hill (18-16) is on a
two-fight slump.
