Sitting atop the 13-fight card is a welterweight fight between
former titleholder Kamaru
Usman and rising contender Joaquin
Buckley. Both men successfully came in under the 171-pound
limit, so the five-round main event will move forward as planned.
All fighters on the card made weight, including Mansur
Abdul-Malik, who had to weigh in a second time.
This is a must-win fight for Usman (20-4), who is on a three-fight
skid. „The Nigerian Nightmare“ lost the title in a shocking
fifth-round upset to Leon
Edwards back in 2022. Since then, Usman has lost a decision to
Edwards in the rematch and to top contender Khamzat
Chimaev at 185 pounds. Having not fought since October 2023,
the 38-year-old has a lot to prove if he wants to remain a factor
at welterweight. The Kill Cliff FC fighter stepped on the scale
weighing 171 pounds on the dot.
Buckley (21-6) steps into the biggest fight of his career on a
six-fight winning streak. Most recently stopping both Colby
Covington and Stephen
Thompson, „New Mansa“ has become a fan-favorite due to his
brutal beatdowns. The 31-year-old will look to enter title
contention with a victory and weighed 171 pounds for the fight.
The UFC Atlanta main card will air simultaneously on ESPN and ESPN+
starting at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT on Saturday. Prelims begin at 7
p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
