The Singapore-based promotion announced Tuesday that reigning
atomweight (115-pound) queen Stamp
Fairtex will defend her belt against Denice
Zamboanga at
ONE Championship 166 on March 1 at Lusail Sports Arena in
Lusail, Qatar. Additionally, Tye Ruotolo
will defend his welterweight (185-pound) submission grappling title
against former IBJJF world champion Izaak Mitchell in another
featured bout on the card.
ONE Championship 166 already featured three title rematches, all in
MMA. In the main event, Anatoliy
Malykhin will attempt to become a three-division champion when
he challenges Reinier
de Ridder for the middleweight (205-pound) strap. Additionally,
Jarred
Brooks will face Joshua
Pacio for strawweight (125-pound) gold, while reigning
featherweight (155-pound) champion Kai Tang takes
on interim title holder Thanh Le.
ONE also announced that it will hold a no-gi submission grappling
tournament prior to the event at the Aspire Zone in Doha, Qatar.
Entitled “Road to ONE: Doha,” this competition will span five
weight classes, with winners earning contracts to grapple for ONE
Championship.
Fairtex is ONE’s first three-sport champion, with titles in MMA,
muay thai and kickboxing to her credit. The 26-year-old Thailand
native has won her last three promotional outings, most recently
claiming the 115-pound MMA belt with a third-round TKO of Seo Hee Ham
at One on Prime Video 14 this past September.
A native of Quezon City, Philippines, Zamboanga has been victorious
in 10 of her 12 professional appearances. She is 5-2 under the ONE
banner and is coming off back-to-back triumphs against Heqin Lin and
Julie
Mezabarba.
