Sean
O’Malley has become increasingly discreet.
O’Malley (18-2) is scheduled to challenge Merab
Dvalishvili (19-4) in a rematch for the bantamweight title in
the UFC 316 main event on June 7 at Prudential Center in Newark,
New Jersey. Once a loud presence on social media, O’Malley recently
and discreetly welcomed a newborn, hardly two weeks ahead of his
title fight.
Opting not to do a gender reveal, O’Malley was predicting it would
be a girl while his wife, Danya, was convinced it would be a boy.
And Danya was correct. O’Malley credits his wife for not letting
the pregnancy and birth hamper his camp. “Suga” rather finds bliss
when he returns home and gets to hold his now 10-day-old boy.
“That is true. Oh, yeah, that’s true. I almost forgot about that
guy. Ten day old… Danya convinced me it’s a boy,” O’Malley said on
YouTube. “I thought was a girl, and I was wrong…It’s nice cause
Danya’s such a beast. I’ve sleeping upstairs. Just because the baby
wakes up. Baby only wakes up every 3 hours to feed… I’ve been
sleeping upstairs, so I’ve had to deal with that yet. But it’s been
good. It’s been really good. It’s so peaceful. Just like every time
I’m here and I go home, I get so excited on that drive home that I
get to go hold him. He just sleeps all day, so I get home, he’s
pretty much sleeping… or burping, I put him on my chest, it is just
the most peaceful thing ever.”
O’Malley won the title by knocking out Aljamain
Sterling in 2023 and defended it once against Marlon Vera
last year, avenging a previous loss. The Montana native came up
short in his next title defense against Dvalishvili at Noche UFC
and has not fought since. Dvalishvili has defended his title
against Umar
Nurmagomedov.
