The Rizin Fighting Federation heavyweight grand
prix will wrap up its opening round next month.
Via a press release sent out on Friday, the promotion broke the
news of several new matchups that would be part of Rizin
Landmark Vol. 11 on June 14. One of the few bouts that had
already been on the books was its presumptive featherweight
headliner between Vugar
Karamov and Shuya
Kimura, and the organization slotted six MMA matches and three
under kickboxing rules on the card that will be held at the
Makomanai Sekisui Heim Ice Arena in Sapporo, Japan.
Among the additional pairings include a heavyweight contest that
will wrap up the first round of the tournament. Three of the four
fights in the quarterfinals have already been decided, and the
fourth was to be Islambek
Baktybek Uulu against Alexander
Soldatkin. Instead, Soldatkin (14-4, 1 NC) will come to blows
with France’s Prince
Aounallah (20-12) in a three-round encounter.
Other notable new fights include Haruka
Hasegawa’s organizational debut against a woman 13 years her
junior in Machi
Fukuda at 115 pounds. Also, Tiger Muay Thai product Viktor
Kolesnik will square off with Keisuke
Sasu at featherweight. In a battle of well-traveled Japanese
135-pounders, Taichi
Nakajima will throw down with Kosuke
Terashima. Finally, unbeaten Azerbaijani Magerram
Gasanzade looks to go 2-0 under the Rizin banner against
Tatsuya
Ando in a featherweight contest.
