The
Professional Fighters League’s 2025 World Tournament continues
on Friday, albeit with a new main event, as the first round of the
men’s bantamweight and women’s flyweight tournaments kick off. The new headliner will see bantamweight Leandro
Higo take on Marcirley
Alves, who is stepping up as an alternate and replacing
Josh
Rettinghouse after the American was not cleared to fight. A
former Bellator standout, Higo (23-6) will take on the 25-year-old
Alves (12-4) in his promotional debut. At 36 years of age, this
could mark one of the final high-level runs for „Pitbull,“ who is
coming off back-to-back wins over Nikita
Mikhailov and James
Gallagher. Alves recently lost to Sarvarjon
Khamidov, which snapped a three-fight win streak.
Meanwhile, the co-main event will see former Bellator women’s
flyweight champion Liz
Carmouche fight in the PFL for the fourth time. While she won
her first two bouts against Juliana
Velasquez and Kana
Watanabe, „Girl-Rilla“ fell short against Taila
Santos in the 2024 playoffs. The 41-year-old veteran sports an
impressive 22-8 record and will be taking on Ilara
Joanne. „Arya Stark“ hasn’t lived up to her nickname with a
12-9 record, although she recently scored her first PFL win with a
victory over Shanna
Young last year.
PFL World Tournament 2 will stream in its entirety on ESPN+ on
Friday. Prelims begin at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT, while the main card
kicks off at 11 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT.
