Canada’s Mike Malott
is set to return to the Octagon following his first
Ultimate Fighting Championship loss against promotional veteran
Neil
Magny at
UFC 297 in January.
“Proper” (10-2) will take on “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 29
finalist Gilbert
Urbina (7-3) in a three-round welterweight clash at a UFC
Fight Night event set to go down on July 13 at the UFC Apex in
Las Vegas. The news was first reported by Canadian outlet Sportsnet
in a post to X (formerly known as Twitter). The clash was confirmed
by Malott in an Instagram post.
As mentioned earlier, Malott is coming off an upset Round 3
technical knockout loss at the hands of Magny on home soil in
Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Although “Proper” succeeded at
outclassing “The Haitian Sensation” for the first two rounds, in
the last minute of the bout, an exhausted Malott found himself in
the bottom position, with Magny unloading a barrage of punches from
top. With only 15 seconds remaining, referee Kevin
MacDonald was forced to stop the bout, awarding Magny a
come-from-behind TKO victory.
Meanwhile, Urbina will enter the Octagon on the heels of a Round 1
TKO defeat at the hands of Illinois’ Charlie
Radtke in February this year. Prior to that, the 28-year-old
recorded a Round 2 TKO victory over Orion Cosce
in a 173-pound catchweight meeting at
UFC Fight Night 223 in May 2023.
