Kyle
Prepolec is set to make his Octagon debut against Benoit St.
Denis on five days’ notice at
UFC 315.
France’s St. Denis (13-3) was originally set to face Joel
Alvarez at UFC 315 on May 10 at Bell Centre in Montreal.
However, Alvarez was unfortunately forced out due to a hand injury,
which he revealed on Sunday.
“Hey there everyone. I’m out of my fight at UFC315 due to hand
injury that leaves me unable to start punching for 3 weeks,”
Alvarez wrote on social media. “There are many factors
that are not in our hand and we cannot control. Camp had been
perfect so far. We will be back this year reformed and with a
different focus. Thank you very much to everyone always for the
support, you are the best.”
It didn’t take much time for the UFC to find a replacement in
Prepolec, who will debut in front of a home crowd in Canada.
Prepolec (18-8) was originally scheduled to fight under the SMMA
banner in Montreal on May 9. However, his UFC debut will be a big
step up for the 35-year-old, who is on a three-fight, first-round
finishing streak.
Meanwhile, St. Denis went on a five-fight finishing streak after
suffering a loss in his UFC debut. However, “God of War” has since
suffered back-to-back stoppage losses against Dustin
Poirier and Renato
“Money” Moicano, who were both steep step-ups in competition
for him. St. Denis is a massive -1200 favorite against Prepolec,
who opened as a +700 underdog.
