The
Ultimate Fighting Championship is throwing one more top-ranked
matchup on its blockbuster card at the end of June.
According to the UFC
on Friday, Ian Garry
(14-0) will be throwing down with Michael
Page (22-2) at
UFC 303 on June 29. The two welterweights will toe the line
inside of the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where they will be
placed on the main card. Earlier in the week, Garry stated on a
since-deleted social media post that he had accepted an offer to
face “MVP” at this event.
“The Future” has strung together a solid seven-fight win streak
since making his way to the promotion as the Cage Warriors Fighting Championship
welterweight kingpin. The Irishman introduced himself to the UFC
brass by punching out Jordan
Williams in the first round at UFC 268 and has not looked back.
A pair of decision victories over Darian
Weeks and Gabriel
Green carried him into pairings against Kenan Song
and Daniel
Rodriguez, where he dispatched both Song and Rodriguez via
strikes. Since then, Garry has catapulted himself into contention
by prevailing over Neil Magny
and Geoff
Neal on the scorecards.
While Garry has won seven straight bouts in the Octagon, Page has
earned just one thus far, outhustling Kevin
Holland at UFC 299 en route to a decision triumph. The former
interim Bellator MMA title challenger left the organization in
2023 as one of the top five winningest fighters in the company’s
history. Under the Bellator banner, Page scored one of the 10
fastest knockouts in Bellator history, dispatching Ryan
Sanders in 10 seconds at Bellator 933 in 2013.
UFC 303 will be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on June 29,
with a non-championship welterweight headliner pitting Conor
McGregor against Michael
Chandler. Serving as the newly announced co-main event will be
a light heavyweight scrap between Jamahal
Hill and Carlos
Ulberg, with the latter stepping up on short notice. Other
likely featured bouts include a middleweight contest of Joe Pyfer vs.
Marc-Andre
Barriault and a women’s matchup at 135 pounds when Mayra
Bueno Silva faces Macy
Chiasson.
