When they were both in the
UFC, the stars never seemed to quite align for Francis
Ngannou and Jon Jones to
cross paths.

These days, the two heavyweight stars are in different promotions.
However, there still appears to be some interest on both sides
regarding a potential fight, which would be one of the biggest in
the sport.
It started when Xtreme Couture coach Eric Nicksick said that
Ngannou would definitely be interested in an eventual
return to the UFC despite a contentious departure from the Las
Vegas-based promotion in 2023.
Jones, who hasn’t seemed all that motivated to unify the UFC
heavyweight crown against Tom
Aspinall, was immediately intrigued.
“I’m hearing Francis
Ngannou is still interested… now we’re talking. That’s a real
super fight,” Jones wrote on X. “A clash of champions, not just
hype. He held the UFC belt, I’ve defended mine for over a decade.
Two kings from different roads. Not just one legend facing a mouth
that’s hot right now, but two real legacies colliding. That’s the
kind of fight that actually adds something special to my story — at
least from my point of view.”
Ngannou last appeared at PFL Battle of the Giants last October,
where he stopped Renan
Ferreira in the opening stanza in his first MMA bout in more
than two years. It’s unclear when “The Predator” might fight again,
but he did take a moment to respond to Jones.
“You take care of the UFC, I’ll take care of the PFL, and we’ll
finally find out who’s the king of the heavyweight,” Ngannou
wrote.

Ngannou is still presumably under contract with the
PFL, where he is the chair of the promotion’s recently launched
African league. There has been no word regaring a potential PFL
return for Ngannou.
