Jorge
Masvidal
’s retirement from combat sports didn’t last long.

The former UFC welterweight contender announced that he is
“unretired” on social media Monday night. Masvidal offered no
further details beyond that brief statement.

While it’s unclear where “Gambred” might compete, last year the
Miami native
indicated
that he had interest in boxing. Masvidal made his
professional boxing debut in 2005.

“No names right now,” Masvidal told ESPN this past October, “But I
can tell you it’s early next year, and I can tell you somebody is
going to get killed.”

Masvidal last fought in MMA at UFC 287, where he dropped a
unanimous verdict to Gilbert
Burns
in April 2023. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the
American Top Team standout, who rose to superstardom in 2019 after
successive finishes of Darren Till,
Ben
Askren
and Nate Diaz. He
officially
announced his retirement
after the loss to Burns.

„I love everybody here,“ Masvidal told the crowd in Miami then.
“This is where I started my career. It’s been a long 20 years,
50-some fights. Sometimes your favorite basketball player don’t
have that 3-pointer no more. Your favorite quarterback loses that
rifle. I don’t feel the same when I get in here no more. It’s been
20 long years.”

Since then, Masvidal has been active as a promoter with his
Gamebred FC organization. The 39-year-old also recently
reached a plea deal
to have felony charges dropped in relation
to his attack on rival Colby
Covington
outside a Miami Steakhouse in 2022 after their bout
at UFC 272.
