Max
Holloway
has revealed how his
UFC 329
rematch with Conor
McGregor
came together.

Ahead of their fight on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the
former featherweight and BMF champion has detailed how it came to
fruition. Considering McGregor had last fought five years ago and
was seemingly preoccupied with other endeavors, few expected the
Irishman to actually make a return to the
Ultimate Fighting Championship
.

Holloway, who’s set to welcome “The Notorious” back to the Octagon,
was pleasantly surprised to receive the official fight
contract.

details

While Holloway always knew that a fight against McGregor was a
possibility, he was also wary of the Irishman’s unpredictability
outside the cage. “I mean, we kind of got, you know, it’s like throughout the years,
you kind of hear like, hey, yeah, you know, maybe Conor, maybe
Conor, maybe Conor, you know, and um there’s no difference. The
last fight was like, ‘Maybe Conor.’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, OK. UFC…
Conor, maybe Conor. Yeah, we see what happens,” Holloway said in an
interview with ESPN MMA.

The Hawaiian also revealed that he got the contract before his
manager.

“And then I was on vacation, and I opened up an email… I had a UFC
contract,” he recalled.

“What the hell is this? I got the contract before even Tim
[Simpson]; he called me after, saying, ‚Did you check your email?’
I was like, ‘Yeah, check me out. What the hell is that?’ And it
was, you know, to fight Conor McGregor, and it was crazy.”

Holloway and McGregor will collide in the main event of UFC 329,
with both fan-favorites looking to return to the win column.
