A lightweight showdown pitting Clay
Collard against Mads
Burnell will serve as the featured bout for
Professional Fighters League’s fifth regular season event of
2024.
The organization on Monday announced the fight card for the event,
which takes place on June 21 at the Huntsman Center in Salt Lake
City, Utah, and features season bouts for lightweights and light
heavyweights. In the co-main event, Impa
Kasanganay will face Jakob Nedoh
in a 205-pound pairing. The
PFL 5 main card airs on ESPN and ESPN+ beginning at 8 p.m. ET/5
p.m. PT, while prelims stream on ESPN+ at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT.
A 2023 PFL lightweight finalist, Collard began his current campaign
with a second-round TKO of Patricky
Freire at
PFL 2 on April 12. That allowed the UFC veteran to rebound from
a first-round submission defeat to A.J. McKee at
PFL vs. Bellator on Feb. 24.
Burnell, meanwhile, had a two-fight winning streak snapped at PFL
2, as he suffered a second-round submission loss to Michael
Dufort. Burnell has compiled an 18-6 mark while competing for
organizations such as Bellator
MMA, the
UFC and
Cage Warriors during his professional tenure.
After capturing a PFL championship at middleweight last year,
Kasanganay has moved to 205 pounds for the 2024 season. He made a
successful debut at PFL 2, stopping Alex
Polizzi in the opening stanza of their light heavyweight
clash.
Nedoh, the 2023 PFL Europe light heavyweight champion, was stopped
by Dovletdzhan
Yagshimuradov in the opening stanza of their matchup at PFL 2.
That setback ended an eight-fight winning streak for the
27-year-old Slovenia native.
