Thanks to an 11th hour replacement fighter stepping up on Sunday, Dana White's Contender Series will still roll on with five fights.

A proposed welterweight tilt that served as the main event between Darian Weeks and Josh Quinlan fell through when a member of Weeks’ corner tested positive for COVID-19. Signing on the dotted line as a replacement on Sunday was Logan Urban, who takes the fight in the same division of welterweight. Despite the short-notice nature of the step-in, Urban successfully…

NEWS ALERT The fight between Denice Zamboanga and Seo Hee Ham is under official review by the ONE Competition Committee. @DZDenice @yodchatri #ONEEmpower #WeAreONE #ONEChampionship pic.twitter.com/vZ2FkPf3wZ

— ONE Championship (@ONEChampionship) September 5, 2021

Seo Hee Ham may not get to savor her debut win in One Championship for too long.

In a tweet Sunday, the promotion echoed a similar tweet from One Championship founder and CEO Chatri Sityodtong, stating, “The fight between Denice Zamboanga and Seo Hee Ham is under official review by the ONE Competition Committee.” The fight in question, which took place last Friday at One Championship “Empower”, was a competitive fight between undefeated rising contender Zamboanga and star free agent acquisition Ham. In the immediate aftermath, the result was announced as a split decision victory for Ham, but that outcome now appears to be potentially changing.

Tom Aspinall ‘Not in a Rush’ to Face Top UFC Heavyweight Contenders

Tom Aspinall is willing to gradually work his way to the top of the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s heavyweight division.

The Team Kaobon product earned his fourth straight promotional triumph — and seventh in a row overall — at UFC Fight Night 191, where he stopped Sergey Spivak with an elbow and follow-up punches 2:30 into the opening round of their heavyweight co-main event clash. Aspinall, who was originally supposed to face Sergey Pavlovich on the card, was able to adjust relatively easily to the new opponent and snap Spivak’s three-bout winning streak.

“I’ve actually trained for Spivak before, even though we didn’t fight. I know what Spivak’s all about.  Spivak’s a very, very durable guy,” Aspinall said at the post-fight press conference. “I’m not trying to sound cocky or anything, but I was in first gear in that fight because I know he waits for his opponents to get tired before he starts to attack. I was just taking my time in there. I wasn’t doing expl…

Rib Injury Nearly Forced Derek Brunson to Withdraw from UFC Fight Night 191 Headliner

Under normal circumstances, most observers would agree that Derek Brunson performed quite well in the UFC Fight Night 191 main event. It turns out that he dealt with some adversity leading up to his latest victory.

The North Carolina native relied on his wrestling against Darren Till on Saturday, grounding his opponent three times before winning via rear-naked choke at the 2:13 mark of the third round in their middleweight bout at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday. After his fifth consecutive Octagon triumph, Brunson revealed that his training camp for Till was severely limited.

“I had a rib injury,” Brunson at Saturday’s post-fight press conference. “I thought I broke my ribs. I got kicked in the ribs really hard by someone’s toe. This guy was about 240 [pounds]. It was kind of like a bad thing sparring with someone so heavy when I’m getting my body down to my fight weight and I’m getting ready to compete.

“But yeah, I thought I broke my ribs. The last thr…

Darian Weeks Out; Logan Urban Steps in to Face Josh Quinlan at Contender Series Week 2

The featured matchup for Week 2 of Dana White’s Contender Series has been altered just a few days prior to the card.

Darian Weeks has pulled out of his scheduled clash with Josh Quinlan after someone in his camp tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, Logan Urban will now face Quinlan in a welterweight matchup on Tuesday. MMA DNA was first to report the new booking. The Contender Series takes place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas and airs on ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Urban has been victorious in five of his first six professional fights. In his most recent outing, the 27-year-old known as “Hulk” scored a second-round KO of Antoine Blassingame at Ohio Combat League 14 on July 24.

A three-time Legacy Fighting Alliance competitor, Quinlan will take a 5-0 mark into his matchup with Urban. “The Renegade” has finished all of his triumphs inside the distance, including a third-round submission of Dallas Jennings in his most recent ou…

UFC Fight Night 191 Bonuses: Aspinall, Pimblett, McCann, Kim Pocket $50K

Tom Aspinall’s climb in the heavyweight division continued on Saturday, and it also included a $50,000 bonus for his efforts.

Aspinall earned a “Performance of the Night” check thanks to his first-round stoppage of Sergey Spivak in the UFC Fight Night 191 co-main event at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. An elbow from the Team Kaobon product sent Spivak to the canvas, and Aspinall sealed his victory with follow-up punches 2:30 into Round 1.

Elsewhere, former Cage Warriors Fighting Championship title holder Paddy Pimblett enjoyed a memorable Octagon debut, earning a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” award by virtue of a technical knockout win over Luigi Vendramini at lightweight. After being rocked and taken down early in the bout, Pimblett recovered and swarmed with a barrage of punches on the feet to force a stoppage at the 4:25 mark of Round 1.

Finally, Molly McCann and Ji Yeon Kim shared “Fight of the Night” honors and $50,000 apiece for their preliminary flyweig…

Derek Brunson Throttles Darren Till in UFC Fight Night 191 Headliner, Eyes Title Shot

Sign up for ESPN+ right here, and you can then stream the UFC, PFL, Dana White’s Contender Series and “The Ultimate Fighter” live on your smart TV, computer, phone, tablet or streaming device via the ESPN app. Derek Brunson made another would-be contender look like a pretender. The Sanford MMA standout moved one step closer to his desired goal, as he submitted Darren Till with a rear-naked choke in the third round of their UFC Fight Night 191 headliner on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Brunson (23-7, 14-5 UFC) drew the curtain 2:13 into Round 3, then set his sights on reigning Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight titleholder Israel Adesanya.

Till (18-4-1, 6-4-1 UFC) was once again betrayed by his takedown defense. Brunson put him on his back less than 90 seconds into the first round and unleashed a hellacious barrage of ground-and-pound that resulted in significant damage to the Brit’s right eye. He minimized Till’s gains on the feet with another takedown mi…

— GLORY Kickboxing (@GLORY_WS) September 4, 2021

Glory 78 marked the promotion’s return to action and every fight on the card delivered, including an all-time stunner in the headline fight.

The heavyweight main event between Badr Hari and Arkadiusz Wrzosek was insanity. Hari made his return to the ring and looked to put his name in the sweepstakes after a couple of crushing losses to Rico Verhoeven and Benjamin Adegbuyi. Hari opened up patient and landed some good shots to the body. Eventually. Wrzosek fell to the body shots not once, but twice in the first. He survived the round and in the second, Wrzosek was knocked down again. As Badr Hari was hunting the finish, Wrzosek throws a Hail Mary that catches Hari perfectly with a left high kick. Hari goes to the mat bloody and cannot beat the ten count. Wrzosek jumped in his c…

Left it all in the cage! #UFCVegas36 pic.twitter.com/871bzw2xfi

Next Generation MMA rep Molly McCann recorded her first win in nearly two years, as she took a unanimous decision from former Jewels champion Ji Yeon Kim in the featured UFC Fight Night 191 prelim on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. All three judges struck 29-28 scorecards for McCann (11-4, 4-3 UFC), who closed the book on a two-fight losing streak.

Kim (9-4-2, 3-4 UFC) excelled in open space, where she could cut angles and maximize her boxing skills. However, McCann rarely allowed her to breathe. The onetime Cage Warriors Fighting Championship titleholder crowded her in all three rounds, shoved her backward, bullied her with fo…
