Ferreira started his 2024 campaign in impressive fashion, violently
knocking out Phil Hawes
in the first round of their
UFC Fight Night 234 encounter. This also saw “The Hulk” bounce
back from his lone career loss, which came against Nursulton
Ruziboev at UFC on ESPN 48 last July.
“I put a weight on myself. This was a weight that was lifted off my
back,” Ferreira told
media members on Saturday. “To actually start the year like
this and having the opportunity to start the year like this with a
fight like this, it’s very happy. I’m very fortunate. … This is the
way I wanted to start my year. This is the way the year is supposed
to start.”
Ferreira subsequently called out another elite up-and-comer in
Magomedov. “Shara Bullet” scored a dominant decision win in his
UFC debut against Ferreira’s teammate, Bruno
Silva, at UFC 294 in October. The clash took place in Abu
Dhabi, which is often considered home territory for Russian
fighters. Ferreira now wants to return the favor by inviting
Magomedov to Brazil.
“Everything has a why. Everything has a reason,” he said. “This
fight was supposed to happen before and he’s already run away from
me once at the end of the year. He didn’t fight me. At the end of
the day, I have a brother. I have a training partner. I have a
friend in Bruno
Silva, ‘Blindado.’ He welcomed him into his home. So we’d like
to welcome him into our home. So ‘Shara Bullet,’ we want to face
him in Brazil.”
Even if the desired fight against Magomedov doesn’t become a
reality, Ferreira is focused on staying active.
“My goal, if everything goes well, is actually to finish the year
with four wins, to show people that I’m not just here,” Ferreira
said. “I’m here to show something. I’m here to grow. I’m here to be
a champion. My goal is to have four wins by the end of the year. We
started the year pretty well.”
