According to a report from ESPN, Canelo Alvarez is in the process of
finalizing a deal for a super middleweight title defense against
Edgar Berlanga on Sept. 14 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, UFC 306 — also known as Noche UFC — is scheduled to take
place on that same day at The Sphere in Las Vegas.

Alvarez is widely regarded as boxing’s biggest star and has
headlined fight cards on Mexican Independence Day on six different
occasions. The Guadalajara, Mexico, native has won titles at 154,
160 and 175 pounds and has won his last four fights.

While UFC
306
isn’t likely to have anyone on the card to match the star
power of Alvarez, the event has repeatedly been touted as a
can’t-miss spectacle by UFC CEO Dana White.

“I’m already $17 million into this thing, and we’re not anywhere
near September yet,” White said during a recent appearance on “The
Pat McAfee Show.”

. “… I’m going in one night, one time and that’s it — never again.
That’s why I keep telling you guys: It’s gonna be the most unique,
badass, incredible show you’ve ever seen in sports.”

Though it hasn’t been officially announced, Noche UFC is expected
to be headlined by a bantamweight title clash between Sean O’Malley
and Merab
Dvalishvili
. Additionally, Mexican star Alexa
Grasso
is likely to defend her strawweight belt against

Valentina Shevchenko
in the co-main event. The remainder of the
10-bout card will include numerous fighters with ties to Mexico.
