Volkanovski believes his victory over Movsar
Evloev at
UFC 333 came down to a difficult stylistic matchup for the
challenger. The champion says Evloev would fare better against
other featherweights.
Volkanovski (29-4) stopped the previously unbeaten Evloev (20-1) by
second-round technical knockout in the main event Saturday at
Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The Australian defended his
featherweight title, finishing Evloev with a barrage of punches at
4:54 of the frame.

Alexander Volkanovski calls himself a nightmare matchup for
Movsar Evloev after their UFC 333 featherweight title fight
Volkanovski praised Evloev’s performance but argued that their
styles made the difference. He believes the Russian remains a
formidable opponent for the rest of the division despite suffering
his first professional loss.
“I thought he still looked great, as well. Again, I’m just the
wrong guy,” Volkanovski said of Evloev in an interview with Freak
MMA. “I feel like even if that same Movsar – see, this is going to
be hard for people to understand or believe. If that Movsar fought
anyone else in the division, he walks through them.”
“Walks through them, but I’m a different guy. I believe that was
the best Movsar that there was. People probably won’t get that, but
I believe that. I’m just a nightmare matchup for him. Watch his
next fight. It’ll be his best performance to date. Remember I said
that,” he added.
Evloev entered the matchup with a 20-0 record and victories over
contenders including Diego
Lopes, Lerone
Murphy and Aljamain
Sterling. Volkanovski’s striking and grappling defense helped
him end the Russian’s unbeaten run.
