The
Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to Las Vegas, Nevada,
with a card headlined by a pair of lightweight affairs.

The
UFC Vegas 120 headliner pitted veteran Mateusz
Gamrot (26-5, 1 NC; 9-5 UFC) against up-and-coming 155-pound
prospect Quillan
Salkilld (13-1, 6-0 UFC). The 26-year-old fighter clipped
“Gamer” early with his jab, which caused the Pole to dive on a
single-leg and hunt a heel hook, sparking a wild series of
scrambles. As the Aussie stayed upright and battered his opponent
with close-range punches, it quickly became clear he had the edge
over the Pole. At the end of one back-and-forth grappling exchange,
Salkilld took the 35-year-old’s back and went for a rear-naked
choke. It wasn’t there the first time, so he readjusted his grip
before latching on again and
forcing the tap at the 4:25 mark of Round 1. In
victory, the young lightweight scored his fifth first-round finish
inside the Octagon.



In the co-feature, high output and striking accuracy helped carry
Diego
Ferreira (20-7, 11-7 UFC) to a victory over Billy
Quarantillo (18-8, 6-6 UFC). Both fighters traded strikes on
the feet in the opening frame, but Ferreira was the more accurate
and inventive, moving the action to the canvas when needed. The
Brazilian also dictated the pace in the second. The former King of
the Cage lightweight champion felt some urgency in Round 3,
shooting for a takedown before the 42-year-old fighter reversed
him, took his foe’s back, passed to full mount and landed a few
shots before losing the position. The 37-year-old had his moments
late as Careiro da Várzea-born looked out of gas. When the dust
settled, Bruce Buffer announced Ferreira won the contest via
unanimous decision with 30-27 scores from all three judges.

Earlier, Yadier Del
Valle (11-1, 3-1 UFC) closed the curtain on the career of
eternal 145-pound contender Darren
Elkins (29-13, 19-12 UFC), who wrapped up his nearly 20-year
mixed martial arts run
with a 35-second technical-knockout loss; in an
interesting matchup for the women’s strawweight division,
up-and-comer Alexia
Thainara (15-1, 4-0 UFC) outclassed former title challenger
Amanda
Lemos (15-7-1, 9-7 UFC) to secure a unanimous decision win
(29-28, 29-28, 30-27); and in the main card’s opener, 26-year-old
prospect Ty
Cole Miller
(8-0, 1 NC; 2-0 UFC) imposed his will on Bellator MMA alum Billy Goff
(9-5, 1-3 UFC) as
he forced a referee stoppage due to punches 15 seconds into Round
3 of their 170-pound affair.

On the preliminary card, Steven
Asplund (8-2, 2-1 UFC) did enough to earn a unanimous decision
victory over Guilherme
Pat (6-2, 1-2 UFC) in their heavyweight affair (29-28, 29-28,
29-28); in a 205-pound matchup, Diyar
Nurgozhay (12-2, 2-2 UFC) spoiled the night of fellow DWCS
graduate Bruno Lopes
(14-4, 1-3 UFC) when
he stopped his opponent with punches with one second
left in the first stanza; 29-year-old Brazilian Jose Luiz

the first neck crank on his resume when he submitted
