Bare Knuckle Boxing is bringing championship stakes to its historic
inaugural event in Mexico.
The promotion recently announced that two world title fights will
headline its Sept. 19 card in Tijuana, Mexico.

Julian Fernandez defends his super cruiserweight title while
Cecy Ulloa and Andy Nguyen battle for the vacant super flyweight
championship in Tijuana
BKB super cruiserweight champion Julian Fernandez will defend his
title against former three-division titleholder Dan “Big Pod”
Podmore in the BKB 59 main event, while Cecy Ulloa and Andy Nguyen
will battle for the vacant BKB super flyweight world championship
in the co-headliner.
“Our Mexico debut deserves nothing less than two world championship
fights, and that’s exactly what fans in Tijuana are getting on
Sept. 19,” BKB CEO David Tetreault said in a press release.
Fernandez will enter the main event looking to defend his first BKB
world title in front of his hometown supporters. The Tijuana native
captured the super cruiserweight championship following a
first-round knockout victory over Alex Wilson at BKB 53. Standing
opposite Fernandez will be Podmore, one of the most decorated
fighters in BKB history. The Birmingham native has held titles at
heavyweight, bridgerweight and cruiserweight, bringing his 9-4
bare-knuckle record into the matchup.
The co-main event will crown a new super flyweight champion as
Ulloa attempts to make history on home soil against Nguyen.
A Puerto Vallarta native, Ulloa brings 18 years of combat sports
experience into the contest. The switch-stance fighter enters with
a 2-1 (1 NC) BKB record and was previously ranked as the No. 1
flyweight in bare-knuckle boxing. Her opponent, Nguyen, enters with
extensive combat sports experience of her own. The South
Carolina-based fighter became the first professional
Vietnamese-American female fighter and is a three-time King of
the Cage atomweight champion.
With two world titles up for grabs featuring Mexican fighters,
BKB’s Tijuana debut will mark a significant step forward in the
promotion’s expansion into Latin America.
