Conor
McGregor
is taking extreme lengths in preparation for his
return to action in the
Ultimate Fighting Championship
.

McGregor (22-6) returns in a welterweight matchup against Max
Holloway
(27-9) in the main event of
UFC 329
on July 11 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. This will
mark his first appearance inside the Octagon since breaking his leg

Conor McGregor discusses his preparation for Max Holloway
rematch

McGregor recently revealed that he has abstained from all forms of
“physical touch” while preparing for his upcoming fight. He claims
this is the first time he has practiced abstinence of this form in
the lead-up to a bout. The experience has admittedly been intense
for the former two-division champion, who is waiting for his
aggression to be unleashed inside the Octagon.

“The fire is in my belly roaring and it’s about to be released on
Saturday night,” McGregor said during the UFC 329 media day. “I
have practiced abstaining also in this camp. It’s the first time
I’ve ever done it. From any type of physical touch, if you will.
And that’s been intense. I’m excited to see what it brings on
Saturday night.”

Abstinence from intercourse while preparing for competition has
been practiced by athletes for ages. However, modern studies
suggest that it primarily helps athletes mentally, with little
physical benefit.

McGregor’s last Octagon win came in 2020 against Donald
Cerrone
. Meanwhile, Holloway has been active against elite
fighters, albeit he is 1-2 in his last three and coming off a
one-sided loss to Charles
Oliveira
.
