Makhachev denies ever weighing 190 pounds on fight
night.
UFC welterweight champion Makhachev seems to be at least the
same size, if not bigger than, most fighters in his weight class.
Makhachev amazingly also had a dominant title reign at
lightweight.

Poirier, who made a failed lightweight title bid against
Makhachev in 2024, recently made a surprising claim. According to
Poirier, the UFC keeps a record of every fighter’s weight on fight
night. Poirier claims UFC matchmaker Hunter Campbell told him that
Makhachev weighed around 190 pounds on fight night for their
lightweight matchup. Which means Makhachev allegedly gained around
35 pounds after weighing in at 155 pounds. Meanwhile, Poirier
claims he himself weighed only 176 pounds.
He Said, He Said
“Hunter, I was in his office not too long ago,” Poirier said on
„The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. “And they
keep record of all the weights on fight night. They don’t release
them all but they keep it. And we were talking about the Islam
fight, when I fought Islam. And he was telling me his weight, and I
was like, ‘That’s insane.’… 192 [pounds] or something, something
around there. I was 176.”
However, Makhachev shut down Poirier’s claims. The Dagestani champ
claims he has never weighed more than 176 pounds.
“I’ve never weighed more than 80 kg, ever,” Makhachev wrote on
Telegram.
Makhachev (28-1) submitted “The Diamond” via a Brabo choke at UFC
302. Poirier (30-10) fought once more, suffering a decision loss
against Max
Holloway, before hanging up his gloves.
