Former
Ultimate Fighting Championship champion B.J. Penn has to
find somewhere else to live for the foreseeable future.

Following his
third arrest in a week, all related to the alleged abuse of his
mother or the court case involving those charges, Penn has been
handed down a stiff ruling on his mother’s temporary restraining
order request. His mother, Lorraine Shin, sought relief from the
courts because she believes that Penn is suffering from a disorder
where he imagines that friends and family members have been
replaced by impostors.

As a result of the ruling, according to Hawaiian news outlet

Hawaii News Now on Thursday morning, Penn will no longer be
allowed to live in the home he stays at with Shin in Hilo, Hawaii.
The restraining order will be in effect through November 23,
although there will be additional hearings and other possible
proceedings like a potential court-ordered medical exam that could
change things.

Penn tried to file a restraining order against her, but the court
shut him down on the grounds that his claims “do not establish a
basis for relief.” Among his reasons are that, according to his own
public posts on social media, his family members have been killed
and replaced by strangers. Unlike Penn’s order, Shin’s succeeded in
part due her allegations of “extreme psychological abuse” as well
as a belief that he has stolen things from her. Due to the order,
while he cannot threaten or abuse her, he now is prohibited from
contacting her in any capacity.

Should he violate the terms of the order that he refused to sign,
he could be fined or imprisoned for upwards of a year. The former
two-division champ hung up his gloves in 2019 after what was then a
record seven straight losses and a draw. Along the way down,
bouncing around multiple weight divisions, Penn met Frankie
Edgar a third time, duked it out with Yair
Rodriguez and fell into a Ryan Hall heel
hook. Otherwise, his combat appearances have been relegated to bar
fights, of which he has been involved in
more than one in his home state.
