The promotion announced the news during the UFC
314
broadcast on Saturday. Nunes, who was in attendance at the
Kaseya Center in Miami, teared up as a video tribute played on the
big screen at the venue. Nunes will be enshrined as the 15th member
of the Modern Wing during a ceremony on June 26 as part of
International Fight Week.

“Amanda Nunes is the greatest female fighter of all-time,” UFC CEO
Dana White said in a release. “Amanda was a great champion who had
one of the most legendary careers in combat sports history. She is
an incredible person, and it will be an honor to induct her into
the UFC Hall of Fame this summer.”

Nunes was a former UFC two-division champion who once held titles
at 145 and 135 pounds. She was victorious in 14 of her last 15
Octagon appearances and her lone defeat — an upset against Julianna
Pena
at UFC 269 — was avenged in a dominant unanimous decision
triumph at UFC 277. “Lioness” solidififed her female GOAT status in
December 2018, when she knocked out Cristiane
Justino
in 51 seconds to claim the featherweight belt at UFC
232. She owns other notable wins over the likes of Ronda
Rousey
, Valentina
Shevchenko
(twice), Germaine
de Randamie
, Holly Holm,
Miesha
Tate
and Raquel
Pennington
, among others.

The Brazilian announced her retirement following a bantamweight
title defense against Irene
Aldana
at UFC 289 in June 2023. However, there have been rumors
that Nunes may end that hiatus to face the winner of the
championship clash between Pena and Kayla
Harrison
at UFC 316.

Nunes holds women’s records for longest winning streak (12), most
finishes (10), most knockdowns (eight) and most knockouts
(seven).
