Dana White is so angry about the
Ultimate Fighting Championship rankings system that he might
change it for good.
The UFC rankings are decided by the votes of a panel of media
members whom White has been criticizing for years. The UFC head
honcho’s primary grouse seemingly is Jon Jones
(28-1) not topping the pound-for-pound list.
Jones refused to unify his heavyweight title against interim champ
Tom
Aspinall (15-3) and chose to fight Stipe
Miocic (20-5), who was inactive for three years. However, White
thoroughly defended “Bones,” also rallying for him to be branded
the P4P king. Jones successfully defended his strap with a
third-round technical knockout over Miocic at UFC
309 in New York last weekend.
Jones climbed to the No. 2 spot over light heavyweight champ
Alex
Pereira in the updated rankings following UFC 309. However,
White is still disappointed that lightweight champ Islam
Makhachev (26-1) is ranked above Jones. White uploaded a
screenshot of the rankings, vowing to get rid of the current
system. He further tagged Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg about
expediting a new rankings process which will use Artificial
Intelligence.
“I have to get rid of these CLOWNS!! @zuck [Mark Zuckerberg] Let’s
get this AI deal done ASAP!!!!!”
Jones returned to the Octagon after a three-year hiatus last year
and destroyed Ciryl Gane
in his heavyweight debut to win the title at UFC 285. He was then
sidelined with an injury until his return against Miocic on
Saturday. Meanwhile, Makhachev has defended his title thrice since
winning it against Charles
Oliveira in 2022. Having run through almost the entire
division, the Dagestani is expected to put his strap on the line in
a rematch against No. 1 contender Arman
Tsarukyan next.
