Jon
Jones
(27-1) isn’t underestimating Stipe
Miocic
(20-4) judging by the latter’s latest training
video.

Jones was originally scheduled to defend his heavyweight title
against Miocic at UFC 295 in November 2023 before being forced out
due to a pectoral injury. Tom
Aspinall
knocked out Sergei
Pavlovich
in a short-notice interim title fight pieced together
to save the card.

While Aspinall has since been rallying for a title unification bout
against Jones, “Bones” is adamant on fighting Miocic when healthy.
Meanwhile, Miocic has also turned down Aspinall, insisting on
fighting only Jones. The general consensus is that Jones’ clash
against Miocic could be both fighters’ last rodeo, leaving
Aspinall’s future in the balance.

Miocic and Jones are now expected to headline UFC 309 at the
Madison Square Garden in November. Miocic recently posted a video
of him hitting the mitts where the part-time firefighter looked
less than sharp according to some observers. However, when a fan
brought the video to Jones’ attention, the champ was not sold.
Jones plans on preparing even harder as he believes Miocic could be
trying to deceive him with the training footage.

“I’m not a historian of war or anything, but I have learned a thing
or two in my day,” Jones wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. “A
big part of combat strategy is timing and deception. To make a long
story short, if your opponent appears weak, prepare even harder.
Complacency is the greatest enemy to a fighter like myself.”
