Fairtex picked up One
Championship’s atomweight mixed martial arts world championship
in the main event of
ONE on Prime Video 14.
The fight was preceded by an announcement from Angela Lee
that she was retiring from mixed martial arts and relinquishing the
atomweight title. Fairtex had a stern test in Seo Hee Ham,
who withstood many thudding kicks early on. However, Ham would
knock Fairtex down with a counter punch and make a statement in the
second frame. Fairtex would strike back in a major way in the third
frame as a right hand to the body would stun Ham, and
follow-up punches to the body and head led to the fight being
over. The fight was officially stopped at 1:04 of Round 3,
making Fairtex a three-sport world champion.
The second title fight of the night was for the strawweight muay
thai world championship as titleholder Smilla
Sundell took on Allycia
Hellen Rodrigues. The first round was close before Sundell
would badly rock Rodrigues with just seconds to go. „The Hurricane“
would live up to her nickname, coming forward and walking down
Rodrigues in the second frame. Sundell would continue wearing down
her opponent in the third, which culminated with
a series of knees and punches along the fence that saw the referee
wave the fight off. The official stoppage came at the 2:58
mark.
The inaugural ONE atomweight submission grappling world
championship was on the line between Danielle
Kelly and Jessa Khan.
The 10-minute match began with Khan jumping guard but getting
pressed against the cage and unable to do anything. After defending
several leglock attempts, Kelly would eventually get her back taken
by Khan. Kelly would eventually escape and then go for a kneebar
that was ruled a catch by the referee. After both were stood up and
separated, Kelly would get a takedown and stay in control for the
rest of the bout. Having come the closest to a submission, Kelly
was declared the winner via unanimous decision and declared the
first-ever champion in the division.
In early MMA action, John
Lineker picked up a second straight win at the expense of
Stephen
Loman, who was slightly outgunned over three rounds of action;
Eduard
Folayang picked up
a come-from-behind knockout against Amir Khan at
1:57 of Round 3 in their lightweight fight; Mauro
Cerilli picked up a stoppage win at heavyweight after mauling
Paul
Elliott,
who was unable to continue after the first round due to a bicep
injury; and welterweight Maurice
Abevi put away Blake
Cooper
via TKO at 4:36 of the first round.
Additionally, in a special rules striking bout, Jingnan
Xiong picked up
a questionable TKO stoppage over Nat
Jaroonsak at the 2:42 mark of Round 3. In muay thai fights,
lightweight Dmitry
Menshikov picked up a stoppage of Sinsamut
Klinmee at 2:41 of Round 1
after scoring three knockdowns within a round, and Asa Ten Pow
wrecked Rambolek
Chor Ajalaboon
with a brutal head kick knockout at bantamweight.
