Rizin Fighting Federation has stripped Kleber
Koike Erbst of the featherweight championship.
Rizin Fighting Federation returns for its first event of the
summer with Rizin
43.Taking place in Hokkaido, Japan, the event features 12 mixed
martial arts fights. Headlining the card is what was supposed to be
a featherweight title fight between Erbst and Chihiro
Suzuki. However, Erbst failed to make weight, exceeding the
championship limit by coming in at 146.3 pounds. As a result, he’s
been stripped of his title, penalized with a yellow card costing
him 20% of his purse, and only Suzuki will be eligible to become
champion. If Suzuki loses or the fight is declared a draw, it will
be immediately ruled a no contest.
Erbst (31-6-1) is coming off a unanimous decision defeat to
Patricio
Freire on New Year’s Eve in a non-title tilt. The Brazilian
fighter had won seven straight fights prior to the setback. Erbst
weighed 146.3 pounds for what should have been the first defense of
his belt.
Meanwhile, Suzuki (10-3) is riding a career-best five-fight win
streak. Most recently, the Japanese fighter knocked out Yoshiki
Nakahara within a round. Suzuki will look to keep his momentum
going and looks prepared for the opportunity, weighing in at 145.3
pounds.
Rizin 43 will air live on Fite.TV pay-per-view on June 24 at 1 a.m.
ET/10 p.m. PT. The event also currently has a pending broadcast
video on YouTube, but it
is currently unclear whether it will be available for international
audiences.
