Dana White Shares Graphic Images of Melquizael Costa’s Toe Injury

Melquizael Costa was victorious at UFC Vegas 106, but he did not emerge from his fight against Julian Erosa unscathed.

UFC CEO Dana White took to social media to share several images of Costa’s gruesome toe injury suffered at the event, a significant gash which required stitches to repair. However, that wound did not prevent Costa from earning a unanimous decision triumph against Erosa in a bout that received “Fight of the Night” honors.

The 28-year-old Brazilian has been one of the promotion’s most active fighters in 2025, with triumphs over Andre Fili, Christian Rodriguez and Eroa since February. Costa has won four straight UFC appearances overall.

Jose Aldo: ‚There’s No Fight That Will Make Me Come Back‘

Allan Oliveira/Sherdog.com

On Saturday, Jose Aldo held court for family, friends and the media at Upper Arena in Rio de Janeiro in a celebration of his legendary career after announcing his retirement at UFC 315 on May 10.

Hosted by Thales Leites, the former UFC and WEC featherweight champion recalled memorable moments, listened to testimonies from those close to him and answered questions from the press. When asked by Sherdog.com if his retirement was really definitive and if any fight would make him change his mind, Aldo didn’t hesitate.

“There’s no fight that will make me come back,” he said. “I don’t want this for myself anymore. I have other goals, now much more on the personal side. I have the goal of giving lectures. I can’t say much more here. I want to study, qualify myself and do other things too. I see myself still helping my friends with the experience I have, with all the technique I learned throughout all this time. But …

Unbeaten Michael Morales Thrashes Gilbert Burns in UFC Vegas 106 Headliner

Michael Morales undoubtedly has everyone’s attention now.

The undefeated Entram Gym star aced his most significant test to date in the Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight division, as he buried Gilbert Burns with punches in the first round of their UFC Fight Night 256 headliner on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Morales (18-0, 6-0 UFC) closed the show and took a figurative bow 3:39 into Round 1.

Burns (22-9, 15-9 UFC) had no answers for the Ecuadorian brute. Morales sent the Kill Cliff Fight Club mainstay into a backpedal with a sweeping right hook and had him ducking for cover along the fence. Burns retreated to the canvas while being swarmed but found no refuge there and instead returned to his feet. Morales was waiting. He unleashed his hands again, drove Burns to the mat and prompted the stoppage.

Meanwhile, “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 32 winner Mairon Santos rode a potent clinch game and a multi-pronged standup attack to a u…

UFC Vegas 106 ‘Burns vs. Morales’ Play-by-Play, Results & Round Scoring

Sherdog's live UFC Vegas 106 coverage will begin Saturday at 4 p.m. ET. The event is also known as UFC Fight Night 256. BETTING PREVIEW | SCOUTING REPORT | ODDS: Pennington (-455), Pinheiro (+350)Round 1 After posting up in a few arenas around North America, it was time for the UFC to hibernate back in the Apex for a card that will likely see pink slips fly in preparation for the upcoming season of Dana White’s Contender Series. Nine athletes across this 12-fight lineup hold UFC records of .500 or lower—although a couple are due to UFC debutants—with just four fighters ranked by the promotion on the billing. Interestingly enough, those with numbers next to their name come in the main event and this curtain jerker. Two ladies in the top 15 of the strawweight division kick things off today, as Pennington (14-7, 10-7 UFC) looks to put a win streak together for the first time in years at the expense of skidding Brazilian Pinheiro (11-4, 3-3 UFC). Referee Chris Tognoni will draw…

UFC Vegas 106 Prelims: Resilient Jared Gordon Blows Away Thiago Moises

Jared Gordon took the judges out of the equation.

The 36-year-old Kill Cliff Fight Club veteran rebounded from a contentious June 22 decision defeat to Nasrat Haqparast and righted himself in the Ultimate Fighting Championship lightweight division, as he dispatched Thiago Moises with punches in the first round of their featured UFC Fight Night 256 prelim on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. Gordon (21-7, 9-6 UFC) drew the curtain 3:37 into Round 1.

Moises (19-9, 8-7 UFC) never established a stable foothold. Gordon caught the American Top Team mainstay off-guard with takedown inside the first 20 seconds, ate some elbows from the bottom and made the Brazilian work to get back to his feet. Once there, the two men separated and reset. Gordon decked the onetime Resurrection Fighting Alliance champion with a counter right hook, chased him to the canvas and closed it out with unanswered punches.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Green returned from a two-year abs…

UFC Vegas 106 Bonuses: Strawweight KO Artist Denise Gomes Pockets $50K

Denise Gomes is quickly climbing the leaderboard when it comes to knockout victories in the strawweight division.

The hard-hitting Brazilian received a $50,000 “Performance of the Night” bonus for her latest effort — a second-round stoppage of Elise Reed in a preliminary contest at UFC Vegas 106 on Saturday night. Gomes rattled Reed with heavy punches early in the second stanza, putting her overwhelmed adversary away 30 seconds into the period. Gomes is now tied for the second-most KO/TKO victories in UFC strawweight history with three.

Meanwhile, Michael Morales captured the evening’s other $50,000 performance bonus with a first-round finish of Gilbert Burns in the evening’s main event. The Ecuadorian talent put his hands to work early and often, and after he thwarted Burns’ attempt to bring the fight to the mat, Morales dropped his foe for a second time to force the stoppage 3:39 into Round 1.

Finally, Melquizael Costa and Julian Erosa earned “Fight of t…

Headlining the 12-fight card is a fight between former welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns and rising contender Michael Morales. Both men successfully came in under the 171-pound limit for the five-round main event. All other fighters also made their contracted weights for the card.

The fight is a must-win for Burns (22-8) if he hopes to stay a relevant figure in the division. "Durinho" has stacked up three straight losses, albeit to the best of the best in Belal Muhammad, Jack Della Maddalena and Sean Brady. The 38-year-old Brazilian will look to show he has more left in the tank by handing his opponent the first loss of his caree…

Andre Pederneiras Points to Greatest Highs and Lows of Jose Aldo’s Career

Andre Pederneiras, coach of Ultimate Fighting Championship great Jose Aldo, had a few thoughts on his fighter’s legacy.

After his loss to Aiemann Zahabi at UFC 315, Hall of Famer Jose Aldo decided to hang up his gloves. A decision certainly motivated by suffering three defeats in his last four appearances—with two of them controversially scored. The Brazilian received ample criticism at how the twilight of his career had been handled, with faithful fans objecting to his acceptance of three opponents who made little sense from a legacy perspective. Pederneiras revealed to Sherdog that he always made the decisions on taking fights alongside Aldo and his wife Viviane.

“First, I need to explain what goes through Aldo’s head,” the Nova Uniao coach explained. “There is no such thing as fighting just for the sake of fighting, fighting to get the check and go home. For Aldo, the only thing that made sense was to keep fighting to get the belt. After the loss…

UFC Head Dana White Throws Cold Water on Conor McGregor’s Return

In the words of the inimitable Lee Corso, when it comes to Conor McGregor’s comeback, not so fast, my friend.

On Thursday, McGregor teased his return to the Ultimate Fighting Championship, posting on social media that there were “real exciting times again in the UFC” and that he wanted to “get this show started.” Since then, UFC CEO and President Dana White told Adam Glyn on TikTok on Friday that this was not the case.

With a very succinct answer, the leader of the UFC brass suggested that McGregor was still going to be out of action for the foreseeable future

“He’s not fighting any time soon,” White stated. “I haven’t talked to him in a minute.”

McGregor was initially expected to compete at UFC 303 in June 2024 against Michael Chandler after coaching against him on the 31st season of "The Ultimate Fighter," only for an injury to eject him from the pairing. Since then, Chandler moved on with a pair of fights against Charles Oliveira and Paddy…

Neil Magny, Gunnar Nelson Set for Welterweight Clash at UFC 318

The Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight record books might be padded a little more after this matchup transpires.

Per the UFC on Friday, divisional stalwarts Neil Magny (29-13) and Gunnar Nelson (19-6-1) will throw down at UFC 318. The two were initially booked against one another in 2018, only for a Nelson injury to scrap the pairing. The UFC is putting them back together to face off at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on July 19.

The UFC’s 170-pound leader in total fights (34) and wins (22) among his other accolades is coming into this bout on a rare two-fight skid, his first since 2013. Those losses came in the form of first-round knockouts to Michael Morales and Carlos Prates. Before the setbacks, “The Haitian Sensation” alternated wins and losses for a couple years, beating the likes of Max Griffin and Mike Malott while falling short to top talents Ian Garry and Shavkat Rakhmonov.

Nelson too lays claim to a top record in their division, as …
