Two-time former Ultimate Fighting Championship heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez was spotted training at the WWE Performance Center earlier this week, and appears to be brushing up on his Lucha Libre skills.
Velasquez hasn’t fought since a first round drubbing of Travis Browne at UFC 200 back in July 2016, as the oft-injured heavyweight was deemed unfit for combat by the Nevada State Athletic Commission due to bone spurs on his back shortly after the fight.
However, the 35-year-old American Kickboxing Academy product looked spry and healthy while training under WWE PC coach Norman Smiley and participating in a session of “DDP Yoga” led by WCW and WWE legend Diamond Dallas Page.
Velasquez already has some peripheral experience with professional wrestlers, as he finished WWE superstar and former UFC champion Brock Lesnar with first-round strikes back in 2010 to kick off his first heavyweight title reign.
In fact, Velasquez even hinted at “taking another one of Lesnar’s belts” in an Instagram post a few months ago while donning a Luchador mask:
Whether or not Velasquez has designs on joining fellow former UFC champion Ronda Rousey in the WWE remains to be seen, as the heavyweight is still very much under UFC contract.
