“The Ultimate Fighter 27” winner Michael
Trizano captured a closely-contested unanimous verdict against
Ludovit
Klein in the
UFC on ESPN 24 featured preliminary featherweight matchup at
the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on Saturday night. All three cageside
judges submitted tallies in favor of Trizano: 29-28, 29-28 and
30-27.
Trizano (9-1, 3-1 UFC) controlled the cage for the majority of the
fight and while Klein (17-3, 1-1 UFC) appeared to have an edge in
volume early, the
Team Tiger Schulmann representative connected with more
authority. Trizano did his best work in the final stanza, when he
dazed Klein with a right hand and increasingly found a rhythm with
more offensive output behind his forward movement. “The Lone Wolf”
ended the fight by trapping Klein in a guillotine following a
takedown by the Slovakian fighter. While the hold was tight, Klein
was able to survive until the final horn.
Park Batters, Bloodies Nchukwi
Jun
Yong Park imposed his will down the stretch through takedowns
and ground-and-pound to earn a majority decision over
Dana White’s Contender Series alum Tafon
Nchukwi in a middleweight bout. Two judges submitted scorecards
in favor of the South Korean — 30-25 and 29-26 — while a third
saw it as 28-28 draw. Park has won three straight Octagon
appearances.
In the early going, Park (13-3, 3-1 UFC) appeared to be quicker to
the punch, as he peppered Nchukwi repeatedly with his jab in Round
1. Nchukwi improved his output in Round 2, but he had a point
deducted for landing his second groin strike of the fight. “The
Iron Turtle” left no doubt in the final stanza, securing a pair of
takedowns and busting Nchukwi (5-1, 1-1 UFC) wide open with punches
and elbows from three-quarter mount position. When all was said and
done, Nchukwi’s face was pouring blood from the damage he
absorbed.
Harris Chokes Aguilera Unconscious
Former
Brave Combat Federation champion Carlston
Lindsay Harris became the first fighter from Guyana to earn a
victory in UFC competition, as he made short work of Christian
Aguilera in a welterweight contest. Harris rendered his
opponent unconscious with an anaconda choke 2:52 into Round 1 to
extend his professional winning streak to four.
While Aguilera (14-8, 1-2 UFC) appeared to briefly stun Harris with
an uppercut during an early exchange, “Mocambique” recovered in
short order and set the stage for the finish by rocking his
adversary with a straight left. Shortly thereafter, a still-reeling
Aguilera shot for a takedown. Harris (16-4, 1-0 UFC) sprawled on the attempt,
locked in the choke and rolled his opponent over. Aguilera’s
insistence on clinging to his foe’s leg did him no favors, and it
was a matter of seconds before he went out from the squeeze.
