Ultimate Fighting Championship continues its stretch of Las
Vegas events with
UFC on ESPN 19. The card is headlined by middleweight
contenders Jack
Hermansson and Marvin
Vettori, who will both be looking to enter the title picture
with a statement win. All 11 fights on the card are now official,
although Ovince St.
Preux missed weight for the first time in his career by coming
in 1.5 pounds over the light heavyweight limit.
The pride of Sweden, Hermansson (21-5) looked impressive in his
last bout by submitting Kelvin
Gastelum with a heel hook in less than 90 seconds. Besides TKO
defeats to Jared
Cannonier and Thiago
Santos, “The Joker” has won seven of his last nine bouts
highlighted by a decision win over Ronaldo
Souza. Hermansson made weight for his third UFC main event
weighing in at 185.5 pounds.
This marks the first UFC main event for Vettori (15-4-1), who is
riding a three-fight win streak. “The Italian Dream” is coming off
a submission victory over Karl
Roberson and last tasted defeat to current middleweight king
Israel
Adesanya in 2018. Since the split decision didn’t go his way,
Vettori will look to earn a rematch as he feels he has unfinished
business with “The Last Stylebender.” The 27-year-old had no issue
making weight and officially came in at 186 pounds.
The UFC on ESPN 19 prelims will begin at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT, and
the six-fight main card kicks off at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The
entire card will air simultaneously on both ESPN2 and ESPN+.
