Sign up for ESPN+ right here, and you can then stream the UFC live on
your smart TV, computer, phone, tablet or streaming device via the
ESPN app. It’s all systems go for this weekend’s
Ultimate Fighting Championship event, with every fighter on the
card making weight and not a catchweight contest in sight.
The UFC returns to the ESPN airwaves on Saturday with a Las Vegas
card headlined by Thiago
Santos and Glover
Teixeira. It’s a light heavyweight bout with potential title
implications, although Israel
Adesanya’s plan to climb to 205 may have thrown a wrench in
that.
In his last bout, Santos (21-7) came painstakingly close to
dethroning Jon Jones.
While “Marreta” ultimately lost a split decision, he earned plenty
of fans after his spirited performance. The Brazilian tore his ACL,
MCL, PCL and meniscus in his left knee during the title fight, so
he’s been out of action since July 2019. Santos looked good on the
scales and officially came in at 205.5 pounds.
Many thought that Teixeira (31-7) would never be a top contender
again after his 2018 loss to Corey
Anderson. However, the 41-year-old fighter has rebounded with
four straight wins including a five-round domination of Anthony
Smith. Teixeira will look to keep his Cinderella story of
another title opportunity alive on Saturday, and weighed 205.5
pounds.
The
UFC on ESPN 17 preliminary card will stream live on ESPN+ at 7
p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The five-fight main card will simultaneously air
on both ESPN2 and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, thus making the
event “on ESPN” and not simply standard “Fight Night” fare.
