All fighters successfully made weight for the
Ultimate Fighting Championship‘s first card of February.
However, there will be a bit of a weight difference in the main
event, as Lewis (26-10, 1 NC) will be the heftier man inside the
cage. “The Black Beast” weighed a full 265 pounds, coming in 9.5
pounds heavier than the 255.5-pounder Spivak (15-3).
Lewis enters his 10th UFC main event in dire need of a win. The
37-year-old has fallen short in his last two bouts, which includes
getting flattened by Sergei
Pavlovich in just 55 seconds. Meanwhile, “The Polar Bear” has
prevailed in five of his last six outings, earning victories over
Augusto
Sakai, Greg Hardy
and Alexey
Oleynik on his way up the division. He’ll look to rack up three
straight in the win column at the expense of “The Black Beast.”
Additionally, the preliminary portion of the evening will contain
all four finals for the Road to UFC tournament that took place
throughout 2022 in Asia. The four top spots in the divisions of
lightweight, featherweight, bantamweight and flyweight are all up
for grabs, as the victors in those four matches will earn UFC
contracts. At 155 pounds, Anshul
Jubli (155.5) will try to become the first Indian-born
competitor to earn a UFC win, while his opponent Jeka
Asparido Saragih (155) will try to do the same representing
Indonesia. Featherweight finishers Jeong Yeong
Lee (145) and Zha Yi (145.5)
will toe the line in a South Korea vs. China battle. In the
bantamweight division, Japanese countrymen Toshiomi
Kazama (136) and Rinya
Nakamura (135) will throw down for a coveted UFC deal and
home-country bragging rights. Finally, Seung Guk
Choi (125.5) and Hyun Sung
Park (124.5) engage in an all-Korean flyweight contest.
UFC Fight Night 218 has a particularly late start time on Saturday,
as prelims begin at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT. The main card will then
commence at 1 a.m. ET/10 p.m. PT. Both portions will stream on
ESPN+.
