Ultimate Fighting Championship‘s final event of the year is now
official after the
UFC Fight Night 199 weigh-ins, which came with a bit of history
being made. The UFC is ending 2021 with a heavyweight showdown between Derrick
Lewis and Chris
Daukaus. As expected, both headliners had no issue making
weight. However, the same couldn’t be said for the rest of the
card, and shockingly, even the rest of the heavyweights. In a
historic moment, Justin Tafa
became the first UFC heavyweight to miss weight as he came in at
267 pounds. Additionally, Sijara
Eubanks (127.5) and Macy
Chiasson (148.5) weighed in heavy for their respective bouts.
All three fighters have been fined percentages of their purses.
A fan favorite inside the Octagon, Lewis (25-8, 1 NC) is looking to
bounce back from his defeat against Ciryl Gane.
Prior to the setback, “The Black Beast” had strung together four
victories over Curtis
Blaydes, Alexey
Oleynik, Ilir Latifi
and Blagoy
Ivanov. The Houston native weighed in at 265 pounds on the
dot.
This is the first UFC main event for Daukaus (12-3). The
Philadelphia-based fighter is undefeated inside the Octagon, having
strung together four straight knockouts since joining the roster in
2020. Daukaus most recently defeated Shamil
Abdurakhimov and Oleynik to earn his place as a contender. The
32-year-old former police officer officially weighed 235.5
pounds.
UFC Fight Night 199 will air live on ESPN+ on Saturday, with the
prelims starting at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, and the main card kicking
off at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
