expected ahead of
UFC Fight Night 182.
The
Ultimate Fighting Championship is back this weekend for another
event in Las Vegas. Headlining UFC Fight Night 182 is a lightweight
showdown between former champion Rafael dos
Anjos and Paul Felder,
with the latter taking the fight on just one week’s notice.
Dos Anjos (29-13) is moving back down to lightweight after an
eight-fight stint at welterweight. The 36-year-old went 4-4 at the
higher weight class with key wins over Kevin Lee,
Neil
Magny and Robbie
Lawler. However, another title shot seemed far off after losing
decisions to Leon
Edwards and Michael
Chiesa, so the Brazilian has dropped back down. Despite not
making the weight since 2016, dos Anjos was able to hit 156 pounds
on the scale.
After losing a split decision to Dan Hooker,
Felder (17-5) saw this opportunity as a quick way back into the
title picture. “The Irish Dragon” had a great 2019 as he picked up
decision wins over James Vick
and Edson
Barboza. The 35-year-old was training for a triathlon prior to
taking the short-notice bout, and as a result, was the first to hit
the scales to weigh 155.75 pounds.
The weigh-ins weren’t without some drama, as one fight was removed
from the card when Saparbek
Safarov withdrew from his middleweight bout against Julian
Marquez due to weight management issues. Three other fighters
also missed weight: Louis
Smolka (139)*** came in three pounds over the limit, while
Abdul
Razak Alhassan (172.5)* and Eryk Anders
(187.5)** both hit the scales 1.5 pounds heavy for their respective
bouts. Each have been fined percentages of their purses, and they
should all continue as scheduled.
The entirety of UFC Fight Night 182 will stream on ESPN+. The
preliminary card kicks off at 4 p.m. ET/1 p.m. PT, while the
five-fight main card begins at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.
