fighters missed weight ahead of the event. The
Ultimate Fighting Championship continues its stretch of Las
Vegas-based events with
UFC Fight Night 175. The card is headlined by a three-round
battle between light heavyweight contenders Anthony
Smith and Aleksandar
Rakic. Additionally, former welterweight champ Robbie
Lawler will make his return after a over a year away, last
competing in a loss to Colby
Covington last year.
After a major setback at the hands of Glover
Teixeira, Smith (33-15) will look to get back into the win
column. His light heavyweight run has seen plenty of highs
including wins over Alexander
Gustafsson and two former champions in Rashad
Evans and Mauricio
Rua. With Jon Jones
potentially moving on from the division, “Lionheart” will look to
start his trek back to another title shot. Smith looked great on
the scales and came in at 205 pounds on the dot.
Also coming off a loss is Rakic, who saw his 12-fight win streak
snapped after being on the wrong side of a split decision against
Volkan
Oezdemir last year. Prior to that, “Rocket” made a name for
himself inside the Octagon by knocking out Jimi Manuwa
and Devin Clark.
Rakic had no issue making weight and officially weighed 205.5
pounds.
Although the 11-fight card is official, the weigh-ins weren’t
without some drama as two fighters tipped the scales above their
respective limits: late-notice replacement Austin
Springer (151)* missed by five pounds for his featherweight
contest against Alex
Caceres, while Hannah
Cifers (117)** came in a pound overweight for her return to
strawweight. Springer has been fined 30 percent of his purse,
Cifers 20 percent of hers, and the fights are official.
UFC Fight Night 175 will air in its entirety on ESPN+. The prelims
begin at 6 p.m. ET/3 p.m. PT, while the main card kicks off at 9
p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.
