The first pay-per-view event for the
Ultimate Fighting Championship
of 2022 is in the books and it
was loaded with stellar performances. While the UFC
270
main event between heavyweight champion Francis
Ngannou
and Ciryl Gane
might not have been the barn-burner many had hoped for, the
co-feature between defending flyweight champion Brandon
Moreno
and Deiveson Figuieredo was a virtually-perfect third
jewel to their amazing trilogy of wars.

Figuieredo was rocked a few times over the course of five grueling
rounds with Moreno, but the Brazilian never wavered in his quest
regain the title he lost to “The Assassin Baby” last June at UFC
263. Moreno was on point early and often, but Figuieredo kept
coming until he dropped the fan favorite with a hard right to the
jaw late in the third. The two closed out the championship rounds
going toe-to-toe and let everything go in the final 15 seconds of
the fight, sending the sellout crowd inside Honda Center in
Anaheim, California, into a frenzy.

Several fights on the marquee were contenders for “Fight of the
Night,” but the time the dust settled inside the Octagon and
Figuieredo was crowned champion once again via unanimous decision,
it was a no-brainer that the flyweight championship was the star of
the evening. Both men were awarded $50K bonuses for FOTN.

Dagestani warrior Said
Nurmagomedov
made quick work of veteran Cody
Stamann
to earn one of the night’s two “Performance of the
Night” bonuses. Nurmagomedov rattled Stamann with a spinning back
fist to the head and then crushed his ribs with a spinning back
kick, and when Stamann tried taking his foe down, Nurmagomedov
simply latched onto his neck and wrapped him up in a perfect
guillotine choke. Stamann bowed out in just 47 seconds and
Nurmagomedov barely broke a sweat to gain an additional $50K.

The other POTN bonus was given to Vanessa
Demopoulos
, who rolled opponent Silvana
Gomez Juarez
in a textbook armbar to cause the tap in the
opening frame. Demopoulos was dropped and badly dazed when Juarez
cracked her with a right hook to the jaw, but the former
Legacy Fighting Alliance
champion regained her senses locked,
up Juarez’s arm and eventually forced the tap at the 2:25 mark of
the first to earn a cool $50K. Advertisement
