Al Iaquinta is facing up to two months on the sidelines after stepping up on short notice to face Khabib Nurmagomedov in the UFC 223 headliner.
The New York State Athletic Commission released a list of medical suspensions from the event on Tuesday. UFC 223 took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y., this past Saturday and saw Nurmagomedov take a five-round verdict over Iaquinta to claim lightweight gold in the evening’s main event.
Iaquinta, who was originally supposed to face Paul Felder on the card, agreed to meet Nurmagomedov after Max Holloway was deemed medically unfit to compete one day before the bout. The Serra-Longo Fight Team representative was handed a 60-day sit by the NYSAC, which does not reveal specifics behind each suspension. Nurmagomedov, meanwhile, received a mandatory seven-day medical suspension.
The only other competitor from the UFC 223 card to receive a 60-day suspension was Kyle Bochniak, who lost a unanimous decision to Zabit Magomedsharipov in a featherweight bout that garnered “Fight of the Night” honors.
