Tyron Woodley Replaces Tommy Fury, Meets Jake Paul in Boxing Rematch on Dec. 18

It looks like Tyron
Woodley
will get his rematch with Jake Paul
after all.

Showtime Sports announced Monday that Tommy Fury has withdrawn from
a proposed bout against Paul “due to a medical issue that impacted
his training camp.” Paul vs. Woodley 2 will be contested over eight
rounds at 192 pounds. The event takes place on Dec. 18 at Amalie
Arena in Tampa, Fla., and airs via pay-per-view on Showtime
beginning at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

“When my team woke me up on Friday to tell me Tommy was pulling
out, I told them I’m ready to fight anyone on Dec. 18,” Paul said
in a release. “Troy, Trey, Trevor, Travis. I don’t give a damn who
it is. So, as I predicted Tommy Fumbles and Tyron is there to pick
it up, stepping in, and contractually he is getting an extra
$500,000 if he knocks me out. First time I outboxed him. This time
I’m gonna punish him and leave no doubt.”

Paul and Woodley initially squared off on Aug. 29 at Rocket
Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, with the social media personality
improving his career mark to 4-0 with a split-decision triumph.
Outside of an overhand right that made Paul stumble into the ropes
in Round 4, Woodley struggled to match the volume of his opponent
in his professional boxing debut.

After the defeat, the former UFC welterweight champion called for
an immediate rematch, which Paul agreed to grant on one condition:
that Woodley get an “I Love Jake Paul
tattoo somewhere on his body. Woodley eventually
followed through on that agreement
, but by then Paul had moved
on to a matchup with Fury, the half brother of heavyweight champ
Tyson
Fury
.

Paul, who went the distance for the first time in his burgeoning
boxing career against Woodley, owns finishes of former Bellator MMA
champ Ben
Askren
, ex-NBA guard Nate
Robinson
and British YouTuber Ali Eson Gib in the ring.

Prior to his first professional boxing foray, Woodley compiled a
19-7-1 mark in MMA, a run that included four belt defenses as
welterweight title holder in the UFC. He parted ways with the Las
Vegas-based promotion earlier this year on the heels of four
consecutive losses.

The Paul vs. Woodley 2 card will include three other professional
boxing bouts: unified featherweight champion Amanda
Serrano
vs. 135-pound queen Miriam Gutierrez; former NBA
All-Star point guard Deron Williams vs. ex-NFL running back Frank
Gore and Liam Paro vs. Yomar Alamo.
