Tony Ferguson has released a statement in light of recent events that led to his wife filing a restraining order against him.
“Thank you all for the great support!” Ferguson wrote on Instagram. “I’m in a great spirits, UFC [and] management are helping me find the help we need,” Ferguson wrote. “I’m getting all of your messages, keep ‘em coming!!! Thank you very much for the kind words, my family [and] team appreciates it.
“Lots of love my social media fam, keep the faith couldn’t do this s–t without you.”
Incident reports describing Ferguson’s unusual behavior included mention of him and his wife getting into arguments, Ferguson’s father asking him to leave his house, Ferguson staying up for days at a time and smashing their fire place, Ferguson claiming there was a microchip implanted in his leg and a man living in his walls, and splashing his wife with “holy water.”
The reports also state that Ferguson was not violent at any point during the incidents, nor was his wife concerned for her or their child’s safety. However, the restraining order was filed after Ferguson refused to seek treatment. Based on his statement, it appears that the former UFC interim lightweight champion will be getting help in the near future.
An investigation regarding Ferguson’s behavior is scheduled for March 22, and a hearing will take place on April 5. Ferguson’s wife, Christina Ferguson, released a brief statement last week regarding the restraining order.
“Tony Ferguson is a good husband and good father to our son,” she said in her statement. “The current legal proceedings are a part of a process to ensure that Tony will receive the help necessary to continue being the best possible, as well as to pursue his passion and career as a UFC champion fighter.”
Ferguson last appeared at UFC 229, where he defeated Anthony Pettis via second-round TKO for his 11th consecutive win.
