Santos (21-7) and Glover
Teixeira (31-7) are being re-booked to headline the
Nov. 7 UFC Fight Night event. The two light heavyweights have
been scheduled to compete against one another in September and
October, but the first was scuttled when Teixeira tested positive
for COVID-19 and the second scratched when Santos tested positive
for COVID-19.
Santos has not stepped in the Octagon since his split decision
championship defeat to Jon Jones in
July 2019. The narrow loss snapped a four-fight win streak that saw
him demolish the likes of Eryk Anders,
Jimi
Manuwa and upcoming title challenger Jan
Blachowicz along the way. “Marreta” has recorded over 70
percent of his wins, and the ex-middleweight sports victories
including other top names including Anthony
Smith and Jack
Hermansson.
Teixeira has been on a tear since his 2018 decision loss to
Corey
Anderson. Tapping Karl
Roberson and Ion
Cutelaba, Teixeira went on to take Nikita
Krylov to the scorecards for the first time in the Ukrainian’s
33-fight career. Teixeira, the first man to ever win and lose UFC
bouts in the fifth round, accomplished this feat by knocking out
Smith in the fifth frame in May. The 40-year-old is currently
riding his longest win streak since his unbeaten stretch from 2006
to 2013, and his finish rate trumps his opponent at 84 percent.
The currently unnumbered Nov. 7 fight card will be held at the UFC
Apex in Las Vegas. Drawing main card billings include a pivotal
lightweight battle pitting Diego
Ferreira against Drew Dober,
while former strawweight title challenger Claudia
Gadelha takes on Xioanan Yan.
