‘Stamp Fairtex’ Walks Over Puja Tomar at One: A New Tomorrow

The first of 50 events announced for 2020 by One Championship went down at the Impact Arena in Bangkok, Thailand, on Jan. 10.

In the mixed martial arts main event of One Championship: A New Tomorrow, One atomweight kickboxing and muay Thai champion Nong Stamp (4-0) not only managed to keep her record clean from defeat but she also stepped forward in her path to claim the One MMA atomweight title and become One’s first three-sport champion. “Stamp Fairtex” locked horns with Indian fighter Puja Tomar, who managed to do little to derail the Thai fighter’s hype train. After catching one of “Stamp Fairtex”’s lethal kicks, Tomar attempt a clumsy judo throw, but Fairtex was able to reverse it and take her opponent’s back. Fairtex dominated her opponent on the ground, landing heavy shots in ground and pound with Tomar unable to escape from this sticky situation. Referee Olivier Coste stopped the action and saved Tomar for further damage at 4:26 mark of the first round.

It took less than a round to former “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 22 and Dana White’s Contender Series competitor Thanh Le (11-2) to smoke Ryogo Takahashi. After a few minutes of studying, Le clipped with a heavy right overhand Takahashi, who seemed to have figured his opponent out thanks to some quick shots. The official end of the contest came at 2:51 of Round 1. In the post-match interview, Le asked for a title shot at Martin Nguyen’s featherweight belt.

In one of the 10 bouts to watch in January, Raimond Magomedaliev (5-1) spoiled former Cage Fury Fighting Championships contender Joey Pierotti‘s promotional debut. Magomedaliev mauled his opponent with vicious short elbows from the clinch, before landing some nasty muay Thai knees which cut Pierotti, requiring the intervention of physicians a couple of times. The end of the welterweight clash came via submission when the Russian fighter secured a slick standing guillotine choke after 3:52 of the first stanza.

Elsewhere, Shinechagtaga Zoltsetseg (6-2) knocked out Jia Wen Ma with a punch after only 54 seconds; Ayaka Miura (10-2) submitted Maira Mazar thanks to a slick Americana at 3:01 of round 2; Roel Rosauro (4-3) edged a unanimous decision victory over Yohan Mulia Legowo.
