Spike
Carlyle made a triumphant return to the
Legacy Fighting Alliance by winning the
LFA 103 main event.
Carlyle (10-3) was given a stern test in his first bout since being
released from the
Ultimate Fighting Championship by facing Batsumberel
Dagvadorj, who dropped down to lightweight after suffering the
first defeat of his career. The “Alpha Ginger” was hurt early by a
knee to the body thrown by Dagvadorj (7-2, 1 NC), which forced
Carlyle to take down his Mongolian opponent. After the fight hit
the mat, Carlyle was able to sink in a rear-naked choke that ended
the fight at the 4:00 mark.
The co-main event saw former strawweight women’s champion
Crystal Vanessa Demopoulos return against Cynthia
Arceo, who missed weight by 2.8 pounds. Demopoulos (6-3) made
Arceo (5-3-1) pay for missing weight as she blitzed her opponent
with
a flurry of punches (and a questionable knee) that ended the fight
in just 37 seconds. It’s the first knockout win for Demopoulos,
who is primarily known for her grappling.
Abdul-Kareem
Al-Selwady made a successful LFA debut against fellow newcomer
Jake
Sebastian. Despite being known for knockout victories,
Al-Sewady (11-3) took Sebastian (6-3) down early in Round 1. Once
on the ground, the Jordanian fighter achieved mount
and rained down heavy blows until the referee stepped in at the
4:12 mark. The win breaks a two-fight skid for Al-Selwady.
Bantamweight prospect Fernando
Garcia kept his impressive win streak intact at the expense of
Isaiah
Batin-Gonzalez. Garcia (9-1) ruined the promotional debut of
Batin-Gonzalez (4-2) by mixing in takedowns with his volume
striking. “Fernie” was able to land the more effective blows
against his 36-year-old opponent and capped off each round by
securing takedowns. Ultimately, the judges awarded a unanimous
decision to Garcia with scores of 29-28, 30-27 and 29-28.
In a battle of bantamweights, Luciano
Ramos defeated Kendrick
Latchman. Both men were largely on the same level as their
three-round bout went back-and-forth in each fighter’s favor.
However, it was the wrestling of Ramos (5-5) that wound up being
the difference as he was able to take Latchman (8-7) down multiple
times. After 15 minutes of action, Ramos took wider-than-expected
scores of 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27.
In the opening bout of the main card, Josh
Quinlan kept his record spotless against Dallas
Jennings. Quinlan (5-0) was the more technical fighter on the
feet during Round 1, but Jennings (3-2) managed to battle back in
the second frame by hurting his opponent with powerful strikes.
Even after two rounds, it was Quinlan that had more left in the
tank as he
submitted Jennings with a rear-naked choke at 2:36 of the final
frame.
In preliminary action, Jacobi
Jones (1-0) needed just 2:22 to submit Cameron
Ansel (0-3) with an arm-triangle choke. In the opening bout of
the night, Giovanna
Canuto (1-0) submitted Amanda
Lovato (0-6) with an armbar at 4:51 of Round 1.
