Ultimate Fighting Championship is putting back together a
noteworthy featherweight fight. Late Thursday night, Combate reported
that the UFC has decided to match Ryan Hall
(8-1) against Ricardo
Lamas (19-8) again at featherweight. The two were set to meet
in May, but the coronavirus pandemic scratched the event, and the
matchup has remained intact months later. They will be squaring off
at the UFC
Fight Night card on Aug. 29, which will be held in the UFC Apex
in Las Vegas.
Grappling wizard Hall has competed less than once per year since
winning Season 24 of “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2015. Since dropping
his pro debut to Eddie Fyvie
in 2006, Hall has not tasted defeat as a professional. This
eight-fight win streak includes UFC wins over the likes of B.J. Penn,
Gray
Maynard and Darren
Elkins. Most notably, Hall became the first fighter to ever
submit former champ Penn, doing so with a heel hook in 2018.
Former title challenger Lamas has lost three of four, most recently
suffering a first-round knockout at the hands of Calvin
Kattar. Lamas’ only win dating back nearly three years is over
future Hall triumph Elkins, finishing “The Damage” in the third
frame in late 2018. Throughout his lengthy career that extends back
to
World Extreme Cagefighting, Lamas has posted victories over
names including Charles
Oliveira, Diego
Sanchez and Cub
Swanson.
The event on Aug. 29 will go down at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, and
while there is no headliner scheduled yet, a major light
heavyweight battle between Anthony
Smith and Aleksandar
Rakic will take place on the card. Additionally, another match
pushed due to COVID-19 has been relocated to this show, as Alexa
Grasso takes on Ji Yeon Kim
at strawweight.
