Darren Till has fined for allegedly stealing a taxi and damaging a hotel room in Spain’s Canary Islands last week.
According to a report from the Daily Mail, the UFC welterweight, along with one other individual, was fined more than 700 euros ($788) in duty court in Arona for the crimes of damage and unauthorized use of a vehicle in the taxi incident. Additionally, Till and four others were ordered to pay the hotel more than 8,500 euros ($9,750) in reimbursement fees for trashing their hotel room in Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands.
Till and his group were reportedly staying in the five-star La Plantacion del Sur hotel until they were kicked out for breaking furniture and emptying fire extinguishers. They then went to another hotel but were not allowed to stay. When a cab came to pick them up, Till and one other individual allegedly sped off in the vehicle as the trunk was being loaded.
The group was reportedly arrested in the Costa Adeje area by police on Thursday morning.
“Court of Investigation Number Four in Arona, acting as a duty court on Saturday, sentenced five British men for different incidents that occurred last Thursday,” a court official told the Daily Mail. “The men admitted wrongdoing.
A native of Liverpool, England, Till last last appeared at UFC Fight Night 147, where he suffered a second-round knockout loss to Jorge Masvidal in the evening’s main event on March 16. The 26-year-old known as “The Gorilla” was unbeaten in his first 18 professional bouts, setting up a 170-pound title shot against Tyron Woodley at UFC 228. Till fell to Woodley via second-round submission and then lost his second straight fight in the aforemention contest against Masvidal.
